- View movie: Holding Ground: The Rebirth of Dudley Street~Boston, MA (pop corn and sodas will be available)
- Adopt draft By-Laws and name of neighborhood association
- Establish committees and sign-up volunteers
Summary of meeting, 22 Aug 06:
There was a small but dedicated number of residents present.
The documentary appears to have been well received. The showing was an attempt to stimulate thinking and visioning around our goals to revitalize our neighborhoods. I think we accomplished that.
Decisions:
There was a unanimous vote to adopt the 'draft' by-laws and to adopt the name, Southside, as our official neighborhood association name.
There was consensus that we establish two committees, Planning (to think through and workout the details of our development schemes) and Outreach (to build a phone tree, recruit new members and put out the word).
At our next meeting we will recruit members and begin the work. In the meantime, residents are encouraged to spread the word and to identify residents who might be interested in our process.
Other Business:
Evan Covington-Chavez, of Self-Help, suggested that she would draft a MOU (Memorandum Of Understanding) for our consideration. This is similar yet different from the MOU we have with Scientific Properties (to view SP's MOU, check out the website: http://www.southsidedurham.org).
Or, contact me for a copy....682-2821 or r.eur@verizon.net.
Evan also suggested that there might be students or a student at NCSU willing to do a preliminary design drawing (housing and streetscape) to help guide our thinking and visioning of a redeveloped community. She will make initial contact and keep us informed.
That's all friends, see at our next meeting.
